Step 2. Decide on Size
In general, standard sizes for door widths are 8’, 9’ 10’, 12’, 15’, 16’, 18’ and 20’. Some manufacturers may offer specific sizes or custom width doors depending on the style you choose.
Note: Oversized Doors
With the increase of SUVs on the road, there seems to be a trend towards doors such as an 18 x 8, which weigh 700 to 900 lbs. Most double doors on the market weigh 250 to 450 lbs. There are some very serious safety concerns with doors this heavy in residential applications. Two single-wide doors rather than one oversized double door may be a better and safer option.
